‘A PLACE OF SAFETY’ FOR ABUSE VICTIMS WELCOMED

East Antrim MLA Alastair Ross has welcomed the opening of a new centre in Carrickfergus specifically used for victims suffering from abuse.

Commenting, Mr Ross said,

I welcome the news that victims of domestic abuse now have a safe place to go to in Carrick. This is the first of its kind in the East Antrim area and a step in the right direction to ensure that those who find themselves in abusive environments now have resources available to them to help take the brave step away from suffering domestic abuse.

Abuse takes many forms and it is often very well hidden from the public eye. It is important to highlight that it is not only women who suffer such abuse and other people can be involved in abusive relationships other than partners.

I congratulate BIH Housing Association and The Cithrah* Foundation for their hard work and the difference their emergency accommodation will make to many people who would have otherwise felt stranded in a time of need.”
