ROSS CONCERNED ABOUT HALIFAX STATEMENT

East Antrim DUP MLA Alastair Ross has commented on the merger between Halifax Bank of Scotland (parent company of the Halifax) and Lloyds TSB which is threatening to cut back on Halifax jobs nationwide, potentially affecting branches in Northern Ireland.

Mr Ross said,

It is an extremely worrying time for Halifax employees in Northern Ireland who face uncertainty about their jobs as this merger between the two banking giants continues.  Obviously many constituents in East Antrim could be affected by this.

I noted the Halifax statement that said: “Halifax will continue to have a presence in Northern Ireland”. Unfortunately this statement lacks the clarity that I and many of my constituents who are employed by Halifax would wish for. I would seek further assurances on the safety of those jobs.”
