ROSS SUPPORTS ENERGY SAVING TRUST LAUNCH AT STORMONT

Speaking as the Energy Saving Trust launched its Advice Centre at Stormont, DUP MLA Alastair Ross has called on everyone living in East Antrim to take time out to support Energy Saving Week.

Speaking from Parliament Buildings, Mr Ross said:

Only last week I tabled an amendment on the floor of the House that called on the Environment Minister to actively support and promote the Energy Saving Trust. Constituents must recognise the message that if they save energy they can save money and save the environment.

Energy Saving Week is the perfect opportunity to have a think about how you might be wasting energy in your home and to take a few simple steps to make a difference.

There are some very easy ways to save energy in your home. For example, only boil as much water as you need when you’re making a cup of tea, don’t leave electrical appliances on standby or charging unnecessarily, and you could save around £37 a year.

In addition, if you use energy saving light bulbs, they last up to ten times longer than ordinary bulbs, and replacing one can save you around £45 over its lifetime.

At a time when the credit crunch is hitting people in the pocket, reducing your energy usage is the ideal way of saving money and helping the environment.”

Mr Ross continued:

“I also encourage everyone to contact the Energy Saving Trust’s Advice Centre, which has just been launched. You can ring them for free on 0800 512 012 to get impartial and practical advice on how you can save energy today.”
